The Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation's Annual Meeting played to a packed house of approximately 350 business, industry and agency leaders, on Jan. 8 in North Myrtle Beach.
MBREDC’s theme for their 2026 Annual Meeting: Making a Difference. Sexton’s keynote addressed the importance of economic development in Horry County and included discussion around why economic development matters in a community and sharing how economic development impacted his early life and shaped his career with over 25 years of economic development, site selection, industrial supply chain and strategic planning work, resulting in the creation of more than 8,000 jobs and more than $3 billion in capital investment.
Sexton’s presentation included several of the most recent data points available about Horry County, including how there has been an increase in Horry County in wages; per capita income; household income; and population, while labor force participation has declined by almost 3% over the last 10 years; and the top five income-producing occupational areas in the County. Overall, Sexton shared, that the state of South Carolina is gaining jobs and that decreases the chance for recession – a good indicator of economic stability and growth for the region.
In 2025, SLA had the honor to work with economic development and community stakeholders to complete the completed the economic development strategic plan for the City of Conway, Horry County’s County seat.
